Meet Barbara Keys, PMHNP

Ms. Barbara Keys is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), board-certified Lifespan Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of Kentucky. Originally obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Oboe and English Horn performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 1996, she performed as a classical musician locally and in the United States Air Force Bands until 2006. In 2007 Ms. Keys graduated with an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University, and completed her Master of Science in Nursing, with a PMHNP focus, at the University of Louisville in 2013. Her clinical experience encompasses both rural and urban settings across Kentucky in pediatric and adult psychiatric care. She has established herself as a leader in various clinical settings and as a mentor to PMHNP across the state of KY.

In her spare time Barbara enjoys “culinary adventures,” landscape design, and creating seasonal herb and hanging/potted gardens. She continues with her first passion, as a classical musician and arts advocate, performing locally with several ensembles and special events.

Ms. Keys’ approach to psychiatry is integrative and dynamic, with a foundation of care defined by a biopsychosocial framework, including individualized psychopharmacology, complementary/alternative therapies, and evidence-based practice. Her goal is to create a dynamic conversation for shared decision-making, in order to achieve optimal individual mental health outcomes.

Barbara Keys is currently accepting clients ages 14 through adult.
For patients ages 14 to 18, a therapist or psychologist is required for initiation of services.
